Dingle is busy, please help.
Trying to pin down two nights of lodging on dingle peninsula for Aug 10 and 11. We are arrviving in Shannon, traveling to Midlands and then Kilkenny. Next we wanted to go to Dingle.
Apparently the Dingle Races are on so everything in town is booked. I just sent enquiries to a bunch of places located out of Dingle town. In the event that I don't get anything, would you suggest Kinsale or another spot? I am traveling with three kids, ages 15, 13, and 8. After five days on the road we will settle in Liscannor in a house for a week, so we will explore Co. Clare then. Thanks for any advice. |
You have left things VERY late.
Instead of us recommending places that may already be full, use this link to contact the various West Cork tourist offices. They will be able to find you availble rooms. www.west-cork-directory.com/tourinfo.shtml |
Janis, I am chastized. I realize I am late. I have one or two options further out on the Dingle Peninsula and I think I will try one of them. It means a drive into Dingle town but I think that the peninsula is so lovely that this will be fine. Since I can't get two nights on the peninsula and I head to Co. Clare, would you recommend Kilarney, Kilkee, or perhaps somewhere else to stay on the way up to Clare? Thank you so much.

fitznj, Try Coill an Rois farm: http://www.dinglebb.com/ No ocean views and it is about 10 miles from town. The host is the nicest person you will ever meet and the B&B is clean, comfortable with excellent breakfast.

fitznj, There is a lot to do in Killarney. I think the kids would like the Gap of Dunloe tour. Also plenty of places to stay.

Anyone know Finglas House or An Doneen (aka Hurley's), both b & b's located on Dingle Peninsula?

You can easily do a day tour of the Dingle peninsula from Killarney and there is lots to do in Killarney at night (and day). Drive along the road through Inch on the way and then on past Dingle to see the peninsula and then lunch in Dingle and back to Killarney via Connors Pass and Tralee. I like the Arbutus Hotel in College St in the centre of town as it is a family hotel (the Buckleys) and has a nice bar with traditional music on most if not all nights in summer.

We're back and did have a great time in Dingle. First night: Hillgrove Hotel (this is also a nightclub). Not our favorite B and B but on the plus side: great location, parking was easy, wonderful b'fast. With kids, I don't think I'd stay there if the club was open but it wasn't the night we were there. Second night (after touring Slea Head, doing the Fungie boat ride and driving the Connor Pass) we ended up in Blennerville, just outside Tralee. Went to the Station House and LOVED it. Innkeeper Matt Malloy is a great guy and we had a wonderful dinner in his restaurant. So it all worked out in spite of my late planning!
