Dinan Bed & Breakfast & Info

I'm looking to go to Dinan in late April, traveling by car from Rennes and then onto St.Michel and the Bayeux. Any great, inexpensive B&B's in Dinan anyone can suggest? I'd also be interested in any thoughts and insights into Dinan.

There's an extraordinary old town above and a river harbor below. We stayed there a number of years ago as a location near the Mount. We used a two-star hotel, though. I'm sure there are wonderful b&b's these days, which I would have preferred. J.

We stayed at the 2 star Hotel Arvor in the heart of the old town and were very pleased with the accommodation, location and price. If you want a B&B, one that has been recommended (by Alistair Sawday among others) is Rhona Lockwood's. Here's a description.

Dinan is a wonderful place. Although it has no outstanding individual attractions, just wandering the town is a delight. If you don't want to walk down to the lower town and back, there's a little sightseeing train that provides a nice tour around the city. You'll want to climb to thte top of the town belfry for magnificent views.

laverendrye: The B&B looks lovely, but doesn't look like it has rooms with twins, which my 21 year old son and I would need.

Any idea how far Danan is from St. Michel and from Rennes?

You can try Gites de France:

But I have the feeling that most of their B&Bs are outside towns. We stayed in one near the Pointe du Groin, which is near Cancale with St. Malo and Dinan an easy drive.

Michael: Do you remember the name of your b&b and did you like it? When you say 'easy drive' what does that mean? 5 min? 30 min?

This is what I wrote in my trip report from two years ago:

Our B&B in Cancale is a converted farmhouse which now contains 5 individual rooms for shorter stays and two units for longer stays (gîtes). Taking care of the rooms is the full time occupation of the host--M.Marc Loisel <[email protected]> 02 99 89 73 61. A friendly man who gave us some good recommendations for restaurants.

It's probably one hour to Dinan. We did our laundry there.
