Dilemmas with booking Tuscany trip- please help!

My fiance & I are having the hardest time with the mid-part of our honeymoon - the decision of weather to stay in Florence or outside of Florence in the rustic countryside. I've been to Florence before, so really want to now stay outside & actually explore Tuscany. My fiance has never been to Europe at all, and is interested in it all! We only have 5-6 days to play with between Cinque Terre & Rome, so we are thinking to stay in Tuscany & then perhaps daytrip into Florence. Is this possible though from southern Tuscany? Fiance is interested mostly in seeing this region around San Quirico D'Orcia. Seems like this may be to far to stay there & take a daytip to Florence? We might have to save Florence for next time- it is just such a HARD decision. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Hi S,

San Quirico D'Orcia is about 1:30 hr by car from Florence.

See www.viamichelin.com and www.mappy.com.

When are you going?

What's the full itinerary?

Hi!

what about accommodating at Sienna? It is quite a nice place, less than one hour far from Florence. I recommend you to visit Pisa, Sienna, Lucca, S. Gimignano, Cinque Terre.. is so a pretty region!!

That dilemma is ongoing !
There are locations that can accommodate both in Chianti or near San Gim. but San Quirico is too far. Staying on the outskirts of Siena is an option---with a bus trip into Florence one day.

Thank you all for your input! Based on this, we are now definitely thinking to stay further north instead of south Tuscany, perhaps near the Sienna area. We had read on a posting before that people were recommending staying inside the center of Sienna as opposed to oustide of it because of the horrendous traffic getting in?

Bob- you recommended perhaps staying in the outskirts of Sienna - wherabouts would this be? We are definitely up for the rugged countryside type of accomodation. What about Greve? Would that be a good option as a base?

So far, our itinerary looks like this:

5 nights Bellagio (Booked)
4 nights Cinque Terre (Monterosso? Need to book)
5 nights Tuscany (Sienna? Greve? Need to book)
4 nights Rome (Booked)

Any other thoughs about this??

Thanks for your input!! It is very helpful!
