In Palermo don't miss the Palazzina Cinese - if it is open and the Museo Etnografico Pitre if that is still open. I am a bit out of date, but they are both between Palermo and Mondello. The Palazzina is an extraordinary 18th century chinoiserie oddity built by Ferdinand IV where the Bourbon court partied. The Museo Etnografico shows all the Sicilian folk art strands which then turn up in Ernesto Basile's buildings around Palermo such as the newspaper kiosks, the Villa Igiea some villas at Mondello and so on - as Sicilian Art Nouveau.
