Dijon or Lyon

I am leaving for Paris Saturday Jan 25th.
I am trying to decide weather to take the train from Paris for a day trip to Lyon or Dijon. Can anyone give me a little detail on both. I'd like something scenic but also I'd like to the city to be interesting as well.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

I have been to both. Lyon is much larger than Dijon. They are both great cities. I have to say that I prefer Lyon, because of the glorious food (I love quennels)and the architecture of the old town. The old city of Lyon reminds me of Florence, especially the bridges that cross over the Rhone, like the bridges of the Arno. There is a really great hotel in Dijon, the Cloche, which is the best hotel in town, very expenive, but worth it. You can also visit vinyards and a Holocaust museum in Dijon. One thing I really remember about Dijon which I DID NOT like--it is VERY windy and cold in the morning, even in the summer months. I couldn't imagine standing that wind in January.

Big vote for Lyon. Be sure to take the train all the way to Perrache, don't get off at Part Dieu. Or if you have to get off, hop on another train that will take you to Perrache. Sit on the right side of the train and as you cross the first bridge look at Fouviere on the hill and Vieux Lyon. Incredible!

Then walk down Rue de Victor Hugo to Place Bellacour and go left to Vieux Lyon. Walk through the old town and then take the funicular up the hill to the Cathedral. Walk back down past the Roman Theater.

Be sure to eat in Vieux Lyon. John is right, quenelles are great but my favorite is Salade Lyonnaise.

I was in Dijon 15 years ago and I loved it. But like the previous poster said it was damp and foggy in the morning. There is fantastic shopping in Dijon too. Sorry I have never been to Lyon.
