Dijon.. or for 5 days

Each Year we spend 5 days to 1 week in a French Town or city after a Business trip to Brussels and Paris.
Past few years as an example
Bordeaux
Avignon
Lyon
Lille
etc.
We will not have a car so a good place to hire a driver for sightseeing or take a train.
Our trip will be towards the middle of September, so I had eliminated the North which was my original thought (Somewhere in Normandy).
Would appreciate suggestions.
Love Markets, Museums, Good Food.

I'd suggest Nancy (or Strasbourg if you want more German influence) or Angers.

Hi E,

Dijon/Beaune would be very nice for a week.

Check out http://myhomeindijon.com/

In Beaune, we liked http://www.hotel-grillon.fr/

In addition, a week split between Nancy and Strasbourg, or in the Dordogne would be well worthwhile.

Lyon!
Great markets. great museums, great food. Wonderful city, excellent day trips within easy train reach or vineyard tours with driver if you like.

We loved Lyon, but were there for a week three years ago.
Dijon is still our first choice.
Have stayed in Beaune as well, but many years ago.
My problem is that we are very Senior, and very active, but changing trains and carrying luggage off and on more than one train when Porters are a thing of the past is difficult.
I think that the most direct way from Brussels is to change trains in Lille.
There are no Flights that I can find even close to Dijon from Brussels.
Would anyone have any other suggestions regarding travel?
Also we like to be in the "hub" .
Best central location.
Price is not important, but relaxed atmosphere is.
Suggestions would be appreciated.

If you can get to Dijon, Coco, who owns www.myhomeindijon.com would be a great person to help you sightsee in Dijon. Her beautifully appointed apartment is very centrally located, and she makes you feel like a personal guest. If you do a search here, you will find many very satisfied folks who have stayed there.

Mid-September has some of the best weather of the year. Like Ira, Nancy or Strasbourg would have my preference, and they also have excellent commuter rail connections to other towns of interest.

Have you any interest in seeing Nice?

You can fly to Nice from Brussels -- which elminates all the luggage schlepping through train stations. Transport from Nice airport into Nice is extremely simple.

Nice as a number of important museums, and good markets. Nobody raves about the food, however, as I recall. There is reasonable public transportation to other towns, and if you are willing to hire a driver, it expands the options.

Mid-September would be pleasant weather.

Lyon is super. However I always wished to spend a few days in Dijon.

Thanks all.
We have booked Dijon.
We have treated ourselves to a Driver to take us to the proper Train Station in Paris from Brussels.
Really appreciate your input.
