Dijon New Year's week? Train schedule?
 

After a few questions and some research on this board, we're thinking of heading to Dijon for 2 days, Jan. 2-4. I know it will be cold and possibly snowy, but will things be open during this time? Also, we are actually leaving Paris in the early afternoon on Jan. 4, would it be possible to catch the train in from Dijon on the same day? It appears that train schedules are not up for that time of year right now...

You can be very sure of there being a normal train schedule Jan 2-4 to Dijon-Ville, about hourly same as any day. Coco will confirm this i hope. Snow i think would be rare on any given day in winter. Coco can contradict this as well.

There is a direct train from Dijon Ville to CDG2 TGV departing at 06:30 arriving at 08:21.

The schedules for 2-4 January will be the same as for any normal Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, except for early morning trains on the 2nd which are likely to be different because the 1st is a public holiday. If the schedule for Thursday 4 January is not on-line yet, try Thursday 21 December and the times should be identical.

You can already book now as it is within the 90 days in advance. I even saw prem's tickets for 20euros on some departures (7h51 and 11h34)and for 30euros at 12h06. Otherwise you'll pay 34 or 37 or 40.40 or 50.50€ on 2nd class.

One more question on this...are the times listed for the trains in military time...i.e., 14:00 is actually 2 pm?

I am booking now, but I am wondering if it is possible to take the train from Dijon straight back to the Paris airport. Anyone?

I've checked and found prem's tickets for 30€ :-)

though there is the odd few times a day or once a day train direct Dijon-CDG you can also go via Lyon from Dijon and then hop about hourly trains to CDG from Lyon - farther and a bit costlier but not having to change in Paris for many is priceless. For the best schedules i know of go to the www.bahn.de German Rail website, which has schedules for all of Europe and put in Dijon-Ville and Paris Aeroport CDG but then put in via Lyon for that link or don't put in via for the few direct trains. An easy way to reach the Wunderbar German rail site is to go to: www.budgeteuropetravel.com and on their home page click on the link All European Railway Schedules and up pops the English schedule page - the home page i refer also gives tips on using the www.bahn.de site. sncf site is much more fickle in my experience though you can get fares on it.

I didn't understand that Roissy was the CDG airport. Not finding that 30 EUR prem though...the lowest seems to be 60? Yikes! That is quite a bit pricier than just going into Paris. Is it worth the extra $?

I just realized that is for 2 people, so that would be 30 each. Feeling very sheepish from this whole post...

That is still quite alot extra than the 10 each I am finding to Paris. Is it worth it to go straight into the airport? How difficult is it to get from the train station in Paris to the airport?

Also, we will have baggage...do we need to splurge to 1st class or are we ok in 2nd?

2nd class is just fine on TGV trains. 30 euro fare to Roissy is a steal - 10 euro fare to Paris is an absolute steal - jump on them now.

It will cost you at least about 10 euros to go from Gare de l'Est to Roissy (from nearby Gare du Nord) but transferring stations is a hassle - especially navigating the myriad of passageways and tracks at Gare du Nord.

And it will take you much, much longer to save 10 euros? Naw, don't think so.
