Dijon Day trip
 

We'll be doing a day trip to Dijon from Paris in 2 weeks and appreciate any info in getting around the place. We will, of course, taking the TGV. Following are my questions: 1) how far is the food market, tourist center, historical sites/churches from the train station? Are they all walking distance from the train station, if so, how long a walk are they? 2) We have a lunch reservation at Rest. Stephane Boudard (sp?), is it on the city centere?
We will be arriving about 8:30 AM and would think that the tourist center is not open yet at that time so will just go straight to the food market. Anyone who has been there lately? Would appreciate any feeback/comments, etc. Thank you.

Well drop by the Tourist Office upon arrival and ask for a brochure on the Owl's Walk - which winds around all main sights, which are in a rather compact district.

Dijon's Tourist Office web site describes the Owl Walk:

"This 22-stage trail is designed not only to give you a taste of Dijon's charm, but also to take you back in time and show you the history of our town.

Each numbered stage takes in a place of interest, and the whole trail can be covered on foot in around one our. But there's no reason to hurry, when you can take your time and enjoy the friendly atmosphere in the many museums, galleries, shops and cafés terraces!

yes, most things you want to see are within walking distance of the train station IMO. It's less than a mile to the beginning of the pedestrian area (where that Arc de Triomphe thing is--aka Porte Guillaume at place Darcy), I'm sure. It may be much less, probably about 1 km.

I'm not sure what you mean about the tourist center being open or not, or what you are referring to. Different stores or venues or sites have their own opening hours, of course, but museums are hardly ever open that early. Most of those open around 10, I think. Musee des Beaux Arts opens 9:30.

If you don't want to walk, there is a bus that goes from the train station right to the Arc. The Halles isn't too far from there, around 300-400 meter, I'd guess.

1) the city centre is within walking distance of the train station, you can get to the market in 15min, first church (St Benigne cathedrali is less than 10 min walk and St Michel church is about 20min.
2) Stéphane Derbord's is on the edge of the centre, place Wilson

The 2 TO open at 9.30am. You'll probably go to the one not far from the market, rue des Forges.

There is a free bus (small one with green and white sides)that goes around the centre.
