Dijon Construction
 

We are flying into CDG in mid April and picking up a car to begin a leisurely journey down to Nice. We were planning on driving to Dijon on the first day and staying 2 nights to recover from jet lag. We don't want a long drive on the day we arrive and thought Dijon would be about right. Plus, we have never been to Dijon. We have been to Beaune and Auxerre. We have aslo done the TGV to Nice but DH does not want to do that again.
My question concerns the construction in Dijon for the new Tram system. Is Dijon all torn up? I have read that finding your hotel and parking is difficult. Does the construction effect the sight-seeing and getting around to the major attractions? (We are NOT spring chickens
if there is a lot of extra walking.)

Since our new tramway will start to work in Sept 2013 it might still be a bit busy with the works but not as bad as it was a few month ago. The historic centre is not affected but the area around the train station is. What is your hotel?

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I have not booked a hotel yet. I was considering the Ibis Dijon Central on Place Grangier. It meets out budget, elevator and parking needs and the location seems good. I don't know how difficult it will be to drive to the hotel if there is construction. Any thoughts?

Might you consider taking the train to Dijon. Then hire a car there. It probably will take you three hours to drive. For us, that is about as many hours we want to drive after an overnight flight. A little information. www.burgundyeye.com

^^ Not a bad idea. The TGV from Gare de Lyon in Paris will get you to Dijon in about 1 hour 40 minutes.

Thank you for your responses. DH wants to drive from CDG and will not change his mind, no matter how much time, or money is saved.

I would not drive three hours after a trans-Atlantic flight. Stop in Sens for the first night.

Coco was too bashful to mention it but she has a lovely B&B in Dijon. See http://www.myhomeindijon.com/. Take the TGV, not a time or money issue but a safety issue. It's a no-brainer.

You've been given good advice, whether it is to stop on the way or take a TGV. You can always rent a car in Dijon.
Ibis Central is in a convenient area (place Grangier) but with a restricted area to cars which can only go to the underground car park "Grangier" It is only one way in and out.
You should ask the hotel to show you the way since they surely know what street is accessible (from time to time they change the way of circulation with the works not far) not easy!

Thank you everyone for your information. And I did check availability for Coco's B&B. The 2 nights we need are sadly not available.
I agree with eveyone about taking a train as oppsed to driving. If it were up to me I would take the TGV from CDG to Nice. But DH and I have had many "discussions" and he will not do it.
