Difference in electrical adapters?

Can someone tell me if the electric plug adapter for France (Paris) the same as Germany or the same as Italy.

Germany and Italy (at least in Venice) are different in that the pins for Germany are thicker than the pins in Venice.

Not really, german sockets accept both varieties. The thicker pins are used on Schuko plugs, the smaller on Euro-Plugs. The french sockets are compatible.

First let me thank you for your quick reply.

Let me explain a little further. I have a Euro Surge protecter from Magellans. It has the thicker pins and worked fine in Germany. Went to Venice and it wouldn't fit. I had to buy an adapter with the thinner pins while in Venice.

So, while I liked having the surge protector for my laptop in Germany, if it isn't going to work for Paris, I will get something else.

Thanks

It will work in Paris, if it's got the hole in the (round) plug, halfway between the two pins on one of the other two ends of the plug. This can either be a contact for grounding or simply a hole in the plastic. Since the late seventies the Schukos in both countries have been made compatible. So yes, it works :-)

HI L,

If your adapter adapter with the thin prongs worked in Italy, it will work in Paris.
