Should I read anything into the fact that Croatia is not listed? It seems an odd omission considering Slovenia is listed. They do have diesel in Croatia, or don't they?

Current average fuel prices:
Italy - 1.35 euro/litre unleaded gas, 1.27 euro/litre diesel (gasoleo)
Croatia - 1.09 euro/litre unleaded, 1.04 euro/litre diesel
Diesel is widely available throughout Europe.

Shocking - in 2003 when I was last there, the difference between diesel and petrol was significant. Now it is almost nothing!

Diesel price has gone up more than gas, for two main reasons (this is a Europe-wide phenomenon): There is more demand, as proportion of diesel-engined cars keeps on rising, and related to that, there is capacity constrait at refineries so production cost of diesel has increased. The difference in price between diesel and gas has been due to levels of taxation, as many governments try to help out transport industry whose vehicles run almost exclusively on diesel.

Here in Spain, a few weeks ago diesel was more expensive than gas.
I don't know exactly now..but I suppose they still are close.

Furnace oil is up to 80ct per liter too. (just crazy!!) But don't let them catch you using it in you Diesel engine.

Diesel fuel is essentially heating oil with some additives, for cleaning the engine (to get rid of carbon deposits), anti-foaming agent (make it easier and less messy to fill up) and, in winter, anti-waxing agent. But since level of taxation is significantly higher in diesel for road vehicle use, it's an offence to use anything other than road-legal fuel. There is also less-taxed 'red diesel' for agricultural use, which has red colouring added to distinguish from road fuel. You sometimes see goods vehicles being pulled up and have their diesel fuel tested for illegal use of non-road versions.
