Did you know that sometimes a small hotel chain will "seed" the posts with a good review about their hotel?

Beware of this practice. It is common for small hotels to "seed" or place positive reviews about their hotel on this forum. It is also common for some larger travel companies to do this too. I know this because our marketing dept (Fortune 500 company) uses this as a marketing technique.

And you know what? On a board that gets 100,000 posts a year like this one - - if some little hotel gets a crumb or two of a new customer, who really cares? Or more power to them.

How different would it be to leave a matchbook from "Auberge de XYZ" at the Palm Beach Country Club? So they catch one fish's awareness like that? so what?
It IS particularly bad on the Asia page. When tour agencies/hotels/guides START a post that's a sales pitch, I always post a "you can't do this" reply and report the post to Fodors, but when they post an answer to someone's question, I let it slide because we get so little traffic over there that we need all the help we can get. Oh, well.
