Did you book summer tickets to Europe yet?

Looking to book 5 tickets, Boston to Venice, then Rome back to Boston. I usually wait until at least late February to book summer tickets to Europe and will keep watching the fares. Has anyone booked yet for summer to Europe? I always book less than $1K tickets but so far, nothing is showing up at that price (unless we take Aeroflot from JFK - pass).

we booked one ways into Zurich and out of Rome for July. $975 pp. Prices seems to be rising to me. I could've gotten them for $856 first week of January.

I've been watching since fall. Nothing out of Boston, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, or Minneapolis under 1K. Usually Aerlingus has a sale by March or Swiss is another possibility our of Boston. HATE to pay 1k or more and never have. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm going in May, so not quite summer. We paid $922 for ours a couple of months ago, Nashville -> Rome and Milan -> Nashville. I try not to look after I buy so I don't know what our flights would cost now!

I always travel in late May, never pay over 100k, and I always buy in February or March, so I am waiting. I may not get Greece this year, but I'll get somewhere.

Just bought tickets for mid-may IND to VCE (through Boston and CDG) and home FCO - IND (through Boston again) - for 900$. Thought it was a decent deal so jumped on it

hmm. Bought vlc-sfo-vlc in August for 860Euros ( about $1200 each ) last week when I saw a drop . Your airfares are always a bit less than ours originating in Europe it seems.

We got open jaw fares for May on Icelandair from Seattle to Paris, and back from Amsterdam for $829 months ago. I see that fare is going up now. (Though I swore I would not check)

There is no VAT on airfare (ex-Europe) or sales tax (ex-US).

This may seem like antiquated advice, but it looks like the Cheap Flights forum of www.eurotrip.com

http://www.eurotrip.com/forums/europ.../cheap-flights

...is still a good source of advice on tips, tricks, promotions and fare-hunting in general.

There was a time that I believed that Don, the forum moderator there, was a god of bargain fare-finding and had forgotten more than I would ever know about good deals on fares to (and within*) Europe.

* bargain fares within Europe used to be hard to find before deregulation, RyanAir and countless other smaller airlines.

There are probably many more web sites which offer all kinds of low intra-Europe air fare searching. Not so long ago, there was (just) europebyair.com - - then more capable were www.whichbudget.com and www.skyscanner.net - - nor sure to what degree these might be obsolete nowadays.

Best wishes,

Rex

I'm ready to buy at $1140. More than I wanted to pay but, then, I was expecting to pay up to $1200 for a June trip. Portland>BCN, BCN>Paris, CDG>PDX.
The next-to-the-lowest fare is $1350.
I'm afraid oil prices will rise due to the events in Egypt and the airfares will go even higher.
Anyone have a crystal ball they're willing to share?

I've never seen fares drop before Feb. for a June trip. I have been able to find something every year, usually late February into March. But this is the time of year I start to get anxious. Especially since I need 5 tickets. Patience....

someone here recently had luck with airfare.com (i mean, actually using the tckets) but there have been many complaints about the company. For anyone considering, please check the internet, read all the complaints and comments, and see if a couple hundred $ in savings is worth the pre-trip anxiety.

CaliNurse,

You may be referring to my posts. I have not yet taken the trip, but I have just confirmed with AA that I have a reservation; and perhaps that is what any person booking through airfare.com should do. As far as I'm concerned, airfare.com has done its job.

I can't figure out Air France's website. They don't post prices and I end up with $2500 airfares. Anyone know the trick to navigating their fare search?
