Did we get upgraded to Business and not know it?
 

I've booked flights from Orlando to Athens and then back to Orlando using Continental ff miles. On the way to Athens we go to New York, to Paris and then to Athens. We go on Delta to New York and then Air France to Paris and Athens. I have reserved seats on the Air France flight from New York to Paris and they are row 42 and 43 J & K (way in the back). But when I look at Delta's itenirary for me it shows this:

Notice the Business(X) under the class for the two Air France flights. Is there a way we could have been bumped? (or are Air France's business class sections in the back...haha) I'm leary of calling and asking in case they realize their mistake...which is silly of course since they'd realize it when we check in. I just wanted to get your thoughts on this.

Back in the days of paper tickets, British Airways did a mis-print and put me in Business Class. I know this was not a free upgrade because it was a frequent flyer ticket. This was one of the few airline mistakes I never complained about. :-)

I'm not concerned at all...it's just that I don't want to get my hopes up due to me just misunderstanding what the itenirary was trying to tell me.

I was just trying to get a second opinion w/out actually calling the airline.

I can't get your link to work but just looked at my husband's Delta itinerary for next month. He's flying business class on FF miles and the Air France leg has O under bkng class, not X. I hope his is correct!

Yep, sure looks like you are in Business class for EWR-CDG and CDG-ATH. The (X) means only the fare basis, not the class of service, which is clearly listed as Business for these two segments. This is the sort of situation just made for the saying "sit down, be quiet, and don't look a gift horse in the mouth." ;-)

You may be already perfectly aware of this, but I noticed that you are flying from Orlando to JFK. You then are flying out of EWR (Newark) to CDG.

So you are going to have to arrange transportation between JFK and Newark in the five hours you have to connect, which also means your luggage will have to be retreived and carried by you to Newark..... surely there were flights from MCO to EWR, even if it cost an extra $100-$150 or so, it would have been worth it to save the hassle of having to brave NYC traffic during the afternoon and the potential delays therein....

Hope you're sitting down and ready for some bad news.

The "Ns" and "Xs" are indeed the fare codes. "N" on Delta is the code used for economy award seats, which is consistent with your use of Continental miles for the trip.

Here's the glitch - "X" is the code used by Air France for economy award seats. On Delta, "X" is the code for a paid economy seat upgraded to business.

Obviously Delta's computer saw the "X" from Air France and didn't make the connection that X means something else to AF than it does to DL.

But, sad to say, this would have been plainly evident when you got on the Air France plane at Newark and were asked politely... oh, wait - Air France... told... to turn right and head to the back. :(

That's OK...I thought being accidently upgraded to business was unlikely...but we can dream right?

I am aware that we are flying into JFK and out of Newark. We chose to do this so that we could leave at 11:30 in the morning instead of 7:00. The thought of getting up at 3am to then sit in Newark for 11 hours was too much to bear. So we are now incuring a $100 shuttle fee which we are fine to do (there are 4 of us).

Your seat numbers tell you all you need to know. At the check-in desk I was once bumped to business on an AF flight from LAX to CDG. It is a nicer way to fly! Better luck next time.
