Dialing UK Freephone Nos. from US

I'm trying to book London theatre tickets direct from the box office rather than Ticketmaster's website. The only phone number listed is a 0870 freephone number. I've tried every which way to dial this number but cannot get connected.<BR><BR>Is there any way to call this type of number from within the US?

Have you put 0044 in front and knocked the first nought off? (eg. -870)

As far as I know, from the US, you have to dial 011 first, then the country code and remainder of the number. It won't be a free call from the US.

0870 isn't a freephone number. It's what's called 'national rate' number, and the owner shares call revenue with telecom company. Some national rate number can be dialled from abroad, most can't - it depends on whether the owner wants it. On Ticketmaster site, they give following number for credit card booking from abroad: +44 20 7316 4709. From US prefix it by 011.

Thanks for the quick replies. Alec's answers sounds the most plausible, since the number isn't accessible from the States. I'm using the correct international dial procedure, country code and have tried every combination of dropping the preceding and trailing zeros.<BR><BR>I finally ended up doing an Internet search on the specific 0870 number and was able to find a non-08xx number for the box office. We'll try again tomorrow.
