Devon

My family and I will be renting a cottage in Devon in October. We haven't made up our minds on exactly where to stay; we're thinking possibly somewhere in Dartmoor National Park. Does anyone have a recommendation for a particular village or area of Devon or a cottage? Thanks!!

Try this for a cottage http://www.english-cottages.uk.com/
It looks great.
My view is that Dartmoor is great if you want complete isolation !!
I have spent many a year along the South Devon Coast - look at Darmouth, and Salcombe super Devonshire towns.
best of luck

The National Trust has some really interesting properties, you might wish to check with them. That is a lovely area, but Mike is absolutely right - it's quiet, probably a good place to write a book.

I love East Devon, the coastline from Lyme Regis in Dorset in the east to Exmouth in the west is well worth a visit. its not as commercial as say Torbay. If you like walking or hiking there are loads of fotpaths including the coastal path also NT places to visit, though check opening times as a lot close round about October time for the winter.

I stayed at a B&B in Moretonhampstead, which was a lovely little town. It's right on the moor, as far as I can remember (we're going back 12 years now!) so very central.

I have fond memories of a sweet shop there that sold the most delicious zingy boiled lollies - a lemony one and the other was rhubarb. Yum!
