Destination resembling the caribbean

I'm looking for a location in Europe for some filming that resembles the caribbean. Please can anyone recommend anywhere?<BR><BR>Cheers<BR><BR>Dave

Nothing in Europe resembles the Caribbean. Look at a map of the world and imagine the difference in climate.

Dave Jul 4th, 2002 03:08 AM

Not even just a little bit....

It's not in Europe, but maybe the Cape Verde islands fit. The island of Fogo might be a good place. You have regular flights from Paris (TACV) and from Lisbon (TACV and TAP). You also have charter flights from Germany and Italy(CONDOR and AIR EUROPA).<BR>

Dave, can you give us more information? What exactly are you looking to do? Is it the white sands/palm trees on the beach kinda scene?<BR><BR>If you're reason for not going to the Caribean is cost, have you looked into Cuba or the Dominican Republic which may be cheaper?<BR><BR>Anyhow, wouldn't it be best to use a Location Finder for this kind of thing? Look them up in the Creative Handbook (UK).

Dave Jul 4th, 2002 03:17 AM

The main reason is the cost, I believe we are after white sands and palm trees and a lot of action happens on a cruise ship, can you tell me more about the creative handbook? <BR><BR>Cheers

The canary islands and mallorca are the closest to the carribean climate / atmosphere that you're gonna get in Europe.

janis Jul 4th, 2002 05:33 AM

But few if anyone in the audience would believe the canary islands or mallorca were the Caribbean. There are very few similarities except for being islands. <BR><BR>If you cannot get to the Caribbean - cruise ships dock in many European ports so consider a script revision to change the locale..

For location finders (UK based, but some do worldwide location finding)), look up:<BR><BR>http://www.chb.com/chb/search.asp<BR><BR>and search under photographic services

Yes, the best recommendation is to visit the Caribbean.

Bermuda. Not in the Caribbean, and not in Europe either. But a touch British.<BR>

Tom Jul 4th, 2002 12:58 PM

Parts of Austria resemble the Caribbean. Especially around Sydney.<BR><BR>But beware the sharks.<BR>

Myriam Jul 4th, 2002 01:47 PM

The only place resembling a little bit the Caribbean could eventually be Fuerteventura (one of the Canary Islands) for its long stretches of white sandy beaches.<BR>

Frances Jul 4th, 2002 02:56 PM

The beach at Vai in North -Eastern Crete used to be billed as the only natural palm grove in Eurpoe.Does this help you?

xxx Jul 4th, 2002 08:25 PM

Tom, did you by any chance mean to say "Australia" instead of Austria?

Gitta Jul 5th, 2002 02:00 AM

No place in Europe resembles Caribbean. Frances already mentioned the Vai palm beach in eastern Crete, but that is a small beach, and the rest of Crete looks like Crete, not Caribbean. Myriam meentioned Fuerteventura and it´s sand dunes. Yes, there are great beaches there, but the scenery is sort of "wind swept". So, how about Tunisia? Not in Europe, and the atmosphere not at all like Caribbean, but good climate, great beaches and great food (a mixture of local and French). And even natural palm trees.

Ursula Jul 5th, 2002 02:08 AM

Southern Turkey, Olu Deniz (sp?), maybe?<BR><BR>Agree with Gitta. Tunisia comes close, to some point at least. But it IS different, of course, but not less nice, IMO.<BR>And sooo close from Europe. ;)<BR>Have been going there regularly in late September the past few years. Love it. Good winds for sailing too.

If you are worried about the cost of a Caribbean holiday, go to Thailand. More beautiful than the Caribbean, and MUCH cheaper. You should be able to get a flight for 350 pounds or so. <BR>I wonder why anybody would want to go to the Caribbean when you can also go to Thailand.
