Destination Recommendation
 

My 2 older sisters and I would like to go away in February for 1 week. We did a trip together 2 years ago and went to Rome and Florence. The destination needs to have great food and wine, great shopping and great sights. We have been recommended Croatia , Sweden and Switzerland. Does any one have any great thoughts/ideas???

Paris, Barcelona, Venice.....any one of these would be my pick in Europe. Or Istanbul, although February is not the best month and the wine is not all that great. I do not think Croatia (where??) would qualify as a top food destination, not would the shopping be all that.

how about iberia?

if shopping is a priority (unless you are made of money), i would skip sweden or switzerland due to the high costs. great wine can be had all over europe but is expensive in sweden. everyone has their idea of "great food" but relative to the rest of europe, i do not consider the food in sweden, switzerland or croatia to be among the best. anyway, i think spain or portugal would be more fun for a girls trip (not that i would know anything about that). it will also be warmer....sweden will be quite dark and, for me, depressing in february. morocco or cuba would be other ideas.

Oh, well... this only seems to happen about once a day here! The most important piece of imformation as omitted in the original question.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! Some of the best restaurants this side of the Atlantic, some up and coming wines also, music, good shopping opportunities, including silver jewelry, and very relaxing.

Since I have no idea where you live, assuming that you are not from California, or even if you are, I would also recommend San Francisco, Napa and/or Sonoma for the wines, Carmel/Monterey, Big Sur and a chunk of Hwy 1 for incomporable views. And, if any time is left, how about Central Coast, say, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, for even better wines and fun tasting.

Of course, February is also summer in Australia and New Zealand and, although, it is a chunk to fly, someting could be put together for a week's worth of a trip.

Although I haven't been (yet!), many of our friends are raving about Buenos Aires. Compared to European prices, it's still pretty cheap, and it has incredible food, wine, and shopping, as well as plenty to see and do.
