Depart from Pisa or Rome from Florence base?

I am flying FF miles on AA in May. I cannot get a flight out of Florence in time to make connections to Boston. My options are to train to Rome and fly from there or train/bus to Pisa and fly out from there. Which do you think would be less of a hassle? How long does it take to get to Pisa from Florence?
Thanks for your help!

It took us about an hour (give or take) on a chartered bus recently. I don't know how long the train is, however,I would think that it's shorter.

check trenitalia.com for schedules...Also if you depart from Rome, you need to stay overnight there.. usually the plane leave around 9 am...

Forgot to add that my notation was between Pisa and Florence. Sorry.

Chances are, if you fly out of Pisa, you will be connecting to another flight somewhere else--no direct flights I believe. So your Pisa departure will be very early. There is a train station right in the Pisa airport--be sure to ask for Pisa Airport and not just Pisa.

Hi Colleen,

There is a train from the Florence train station direct to Pisa Aeroporto, takes about an hour. That is your easiest connection.

To get to the Rome FCO airport you train to Rome TE and then take the shuttle to Rome airport. About 2 hr.

Thanks All- I do have to connect through London and it's a 6 pm flight so I have plenty of time to get there. Ira's advice sounds right on- Pisa will be easier-I'll look into that option.
