Delta M-11??

I posted earlier about my frequent flier miles -- for when and where I want to go (rome) Delta is the only airline with availble flights, and they are flying an m11-- how bad is this plane? I personally have never been happy with delta's service, but since this is my only choice... what do you all think?

What is your question? There is only one airline going where you need to go that has flights available. You take it, right? Maybe it isn't the ideal, but what are your options? If we say it isn't a perfect plane, will that make you stay home?
Ok, it isn't perfect.

Susan the M11 is similiar to the DC10. Not my favorite model but safe as any nonetheless. I too am not crazy about Delta but heck, a free flight and I wouldn't complain - take it and run.

Thanks for the responses. My question is, basically, whether we would be miserable. I would rather change my plans that be cramped and uncomfortable for 12 hours.

It's an "MD-11"--the MD stands for McDonnell Douglas, instead of DC for Douglas Company (the two companies merged in the 1960's).

Sorry Susan but for most of us regular folks, cramped and uncomfortable is the only way to get anywhere these days. Gone are the days with a half empty plane where you might be able to secure a couple of empty seats to use. I have only flown Delta domestically and have nothing good (nor horrible) to say about them but can't be any worse than Italy's own airline (Alitalia). A safe plane on a direct flight is about as much as you can hope for from any airline these days. Being uncomfortable for free is better than paying for the same experience.

I flew a Delta MD-11 roundtrip from Atlanta to Japan in 1996. I was in the center seat in the middle section of seats. I was very cramped. Get an aisle or bulkhead seat if you are going coach.

Most of the economy section on Delta's MD-11s is set up with 2-5-2 seating. I would try for one of the "2" bits near the windows, or an aisle seat if in the middle "5." Being jammed into one of the 3 landlocked seats in the middle would be dreadful on that long a haul, especially on Delta (which we avoid if possible.)

Just flew Delta MD-11 last month Atlanta to Zurich... 3rd MD-11 trip on Delta to Europe in the last 12 months...

The MD-11 is a very good plane and Delta is a very good airline... follow the above advice and get a seat on the "2 side" and you'll be fine...

NO airline or plane is good or comfortable if you have to fly in the middle 5!

Susan, It will be BAD - and I had absolutely no luck requesting bulkhead or exit row seating even tho I arrived 3 hours early. I have decided it will only be an emergency situation before I will ever fly Delta again. Their customer service is by far the worst I've ever experienced.
