Delta -JFK to DUB
 

Has anybody flown Delta Airlines from JFK to Dublin? I haven't flown Delta since I was a little kid. Any comments on the service in general or on this Delta route? Also, what's JFK like in comparison to LGA and Newark?

In coach all American airlines are equally bad - except American - which is worse.

JFK is enormous versus LGA and EWR - with a whole bunch of different termainals.

We flew this route last summer (2 adults and 3 teenagers) It is a great connection. Unlike most flights to Ireland from the US, this one leaves JFK and flies directly to DUB and then on to Shannon. It is a circuit trip. So if you return from Dub, you are getting on a flight that is continuing to Shannon and still has US passengers on it. Which means that the plane doesn't get cleaned until it reaches Shannon. Which really doesn't matter. We were not actually going to Ireland, we got connecting flights from DUB to Rome on Ryan Air. The connections worked fine. What is JFK like in comparison to EWR - not much different . Years ago EWR was an undiscovered secret, now it is an conjested and dirty as JFK. LGA is only domestic US flights.

In my opinion the big difference between Newark and JFk is the drive to get there. Newark is a very easy connection from the Turnpike, The Parkway, Rt. 78 and Rt. 22. The Belt parkway and the Van Wyck are parking lots. Other than that an aiport is an airport.

You might want to read a recent thread on Delta's reliability under the Airline forum on the Fodor's page. It's true that many airlines cancel/alter their flights after bookings are made, but the thread points to a number of people being frustrated with Delta's practice in particular.

The Delta terminal at JFK is awful but certainly no more awful than the Delta terminals at LGA or Newark. The service in international Delta coach is equivalent to the airline's domestic coach service, so you're definitely going to be crammed into a seat and won't be happy, but that's going to be the same regardless of which airline you fly so long as you are in coach. But it's not a long flight, so you can endure it.

Just a few points about travelling through Dublin or Shannon from America and then taking a Ryanair flight to another European destination. This is now a popular option as Ryanair serves 75 destinations and many of its flights are very cheap,sometimes as little as $25. Ryanair (www.ryanair.com) is a point to point airline and if you miss your connection then you have to buy another ticket,which may cost you a multiple of what you paid originally. If for some reason a flight is cancelled then they may give you a refund instead of reschedulling the flight.

In my opinion the Delta terminal at JFK is by far the worst termincal at any airport I've been to. There are three lines (check in, bag drop off, and security) that snake in and out of each other and then they are always impossible behind so they start pulling people forward thus causing more confusion. Unless it was a lot cheaper I would avoid it at all costs. EWR is slightly better but I find Delta flights are much better as code shares. Might just have been my horrible experiences though :)
