Delphi worth the $$$?

We have been quoted between 220 and 280 euros for a private taxi tour to Delphi. My wife and I would rather not take the large group tours (and deal with gift shops, etc) Is Delphi worth the day, and price??

Or: are any other Fodorites going to be in Athens Sept 29 or 30 and want to split the cost of a tour?

You can go by bus if you want to do it yourself and skip the tour. It is worth the trip.

Hi,
If you do not want to rent a car or use the bus then this is a good idea and the price appears is OK. Delphi is wonderful. Have a great trip.

Yes, it is worth it... we went from Athens to Delphi to Meteora and spent the night using a private taxi guide. That was worth it also.

Delphi is very much worth visiting. Try not to miss it! But you can so easily get there yourself by public transportation that a private taxi tour should not be necessary. I haven't been there in a long time, but I do remember that I went by public transportation from Athens.

Yes Yes Yes, it is worth the visit. I was there 25 years ago yet I still remember the feeling of spirituality that was present, and I don't mean Christianity. It just seemed like it had been a "holy" place for a very long time. I loved it.

There are escorted tours from Athens a whole lot less than 220 euros - bus tours - anyway Delphi is one of the most fascinating, most gorgeous places i've ever seen in Europe - consult the Oracle and see what she says - i bet she says go for it!
