Delphi where to stay?

Any advice on where to stay in Delphi in April? We are there for two nights (family of four). Is it better to stay outside of Delphi?

If you have a rented car you should definitely visit and stay in Galaxidi. It's beautiful there, near the sea with great food and the children will love it. Although you will need a car because it is about half an hour away from Delphi.

Depends on what time of day you arrive? If late afternoon, best to stay right in Delphi the first night ... IF the Ancient site is on the Extended Hours program (8 am - 8 pm), you could then take in the Museum on arrival day. However, given the Greek economic straits, that may not happen. However you could still take in the "lower site" (downhill, the famous circular "tholos" that is seen on every Delphi poster or folder). It is unfenced, open 24/7, and could be beautiful to photograph near sunset.

If staying in Delphi, look at Pan Hotel or Artemis Hotel, on opposite sides of main street (and owned by brothers). Pan is on DOWNHILL side, so ask for Rear-facing rooms. We did a "walk-up" in late May, no advance booking. Owner offered rear-facing rooms on main floor. Hmm we thought, can we see them? ... walked down a corridor, into a nice room & out on balcony. Hawks were circling -- BELOW our feet! View was down the mountain, thru valley of olive groves, out to the sea. We'll take it! For Hotel Artemis, one would want the highest floor, FRONT balcony.

In late may, Sunset isn't till nearly 9. At 6, We walked from hotel, slightly downhill, along the curving road (sidewalk, with a rampart walk, view down the mountain) to check out Museum. Then walked back, past Pan Hotel, to find dinner. There were several major tavernas with lengthy menus, but we went on, to a modest cafe with an outdoor terrace right by the street -- indoors, there was music & teens playing pool & video games. The menu was simple and great; we had spaghetti. And do NOT order bottled water! Tap water in Delphi comes in big pitchers and is Nectar from the Gods. Our waitress explained it is just piped downhill from snow melt. We skipped the wine & just went for water.

You can't go wrong staying in either location. On our first trip to Greece, Greek friends connected us to a Greek travel agent in Athens who helped us plan our trip. We were slightly worried about the reservation he made for us in Delphi as it was so inexpensive. He knew what he was doing.
The Acropole Hotel is on the south side of the street with incredible sweeping views from this mountain setting to olive groves in the valley that go as far as sea beyond. It is a special memory from our trip. Obviously, you will need to book a room on hotel's south side!
Galixidi is a seaside town. Very nice but there is only one Delphi and the views are worth spending the night.

I'm glad to see this thread -- particularly because I'm booked into the Pan. ;-)

Just a thought: in April the Mt Parnassos ski centre might still be open (they advertise "from December until the beginning of May"), and that could affect availability of rooms, especially on weekends. Delphi is at the foot of Mt Parnassos.

Arachova is near Delphi too and has lots of hotels and restaurants of high quality. We took a taxi to Delphi and it costs approximately 15 euro. There is a bus but during May it didn't run frequently.
I thought the Delphi town was ok but not as charming as Arachova. Arachova and Mt. Parnassos are favorite places for ski goers to stay so that could make a difference as to whether rooms are available.

So we ended up booking what appears to be a lovely place outside of Galixidi... not IN Galixidi called Studio Maistros. Anyone have experience? http://www.booking.com/hotel/gr/studio-maistros.html

We are coming from Hydra which is a hotel and after Delphi going to Meteora which is also a hotel so thought it would be great to have an apartment again. But worried about the "winding roads". We have a car rental

OK I ended up renting a house in Delphi through AirBnB. A little more than I wanted to pay but I saw how $$ gas is... so not sure it is worth driving back and forth and back and forth.
