Delphi/Meteora or Napflion + area in 3 days

Help... trying to weight the pros/cons for one of two choices...

a 3 day trip to Delphi/Meteora?

or

3 day trip to Napflion/Corinth?

I know the driving time is more for Meteora. Is it worth it?

Having been to neither, and not knowing if we'll make it back again anytime soon, we want to make a sound decision.

Thanks!

Roger

Just to clarify, we'll be driving.

We'll have 3 nights to play with before embarking for the islands from Pireaus.

We are mid-30s, active, and love photography and good food :-)

We went to both Delphi and surrounding area, and Nafplion and surrounding area on our trip in May 2006. I'd wholeheartedly suggest Nafplio. The drive is easy from Athens and there is SO much to see in the area. Delphi is amazing too, but the Peloponnesian peninsula just stole my heart.

Here are some of the highlights (an hour or less from Nafplio) we saw:

Epidauros and its magnificent theater

Corinth and Acrocorinth (you'll love this if you are into hiking and amazing view/picture opps)

Argos and its theater

Mycenae (the cyclopean architecture is fascinating to see)

Tyrins (another Mycenaean-era ruin/complex)

Nafplio itself - the views from the Palamidi fortress above town are stunning!

There are many other smaller sights we were not able to see which is why we are planning to stay a full 7 nights in Nafplio on our next trip in 2009.

We stayed at Hotel Ilion and Suites in the Suite of the Sun and loved it :-)

P.S. Here is a link to my LONG overdue trip report (still not finished).

There should be links to some of our pictures too :-)

Thanks, Texas Ag.
I'll be checking out your info. I appreciate all the input and you taking the time to tell us what you experienced.

Second for Naplion--if we ever go again we will spend 3 days there--it was wonderful.

Don't skip Meteora! We were breathless at the monasteries, take the time to visit them. I'd hate to miss Corinth or Napflion, too. Any way to squeeze more time into your trip? These are all very worthwhile.

Texas, took the same route you did, loved every second of it, very hard to skip any of these incredible places. Lots of photo ops, diverse landscape, varied interests, should appeal to most. But, would strongly recommend Meteora if at all possible.

Naphlion is a shorter drive and time is precious on a Greek holiday.
To help you make up your mind here are our pictures of Naphlion.

One consideration to help in your decision --

If one is Orthodox, or fascinated with the Byzantine era, that would weight toward Meteora.

But if -- like so many of us responding here -- you have always wanted to learn more about the world of Ancient Greece, then Nafplio and the nearby sites would get the vote.
