Delos-Do we need to reserve?

We will be in Mykonos in mid July. Do we need to reserve our trip to Delos now or can we book it the day we are there?

Our hotel booked it for us after we arrived.

Went there on Tuesday. Take walking shoes for the lovely hike up the hill. It will be quite hot as well so take lots of water. And make sure you do the tour with a guide otherwise you will miss a lot.

If you are there in july I would definitely buy tickets before the date, it will be popular. And I agree with the previous poster, you will get much more out of your experience if you hire a guide, they travel over on the same boat and secure customers on the way or when they arrive.

All good advice above. The shuttle boats from Mykonos to Delos are almost like taxis, so you shouldn't have trouble getting a ticket (except Mondays when the site is closed). Just check when you arrive at your hotel.

It was very easy to take the trip to Delos from Mykonos.
We just walked to the location that the boats to Delos departed, bought our tickets when the "ticket booth" opened, and had no problem at all.
I do recommend leaving on the very first departing boat (It was around 9:30-10:00am a few years ago) as it VERY HOT on the island, as there is absolutely no shade, breeze, or trees!
It will not be as hot if you plan on the early in the day trip. The boat ride to Delos was delightful. It was not necessary to reserve the Delos trip before you are in Mykonos.

We hired an English speaking guide where the boat dropped us off, and was very pleased with the guided walk thru the ruins.

We stayed a few hours and then returned to Mykonos. TAKE BOTTLED WATER WITH YOU, as it is HOT HOT HOT.

It is an easy excursion to take from Mykonos.

Thank you so much for the info! We have 1 & 1/2 days in Mykonos with a 4 yr old, two teens and 4 adults. Do you think it is worth the trip to Delos in July?

>>Do you think it is worth the trip to Delos in July?<<

Only you can answer that question. If you have an interest in ancient sites, then Delos is definitely worth it. But with any group as large as yours there are bound to be differences of opinion.

Why not wait until you get to Mykonos to make the decision? Those who want to go to Delos, get on the excursion boat - those who don't, stay on Mykonos and go to the beach or wander around town. You can meet up later and compare experiences. :-)
