Deciding between two hotels in Amsterdam
 

Want to book my trip to Amsterdam this weekend. The Owl Hotel e-mailed me a rate of 96 Euros (including breakfast, and all taxes) and The Bridge Hotel is 90 Euros. It has to be economy hotel because we just came back from Venice and Rome and want to go to Amsterdam for 5 days since the fares from New York are so cheap. We will be going in February. Thanks for any help.

We stayed at the Owl a couple of years ago. Very friendly staff. Nice breakfast room. Rooms themselves are very small but clean and serviceable. Another hotel almost next door to the Owl is the Hestia. Similar deal, small rooms, nice breakfast room. Both are in good location, close to Leidsplein. There are a number of other hotels in the same area--the RomerVischer comes to mind as well. No experience with Bridge Hotel.

We've stayed at The Bridge 3 or 4 times. We've always had a spacious, comfortable room (room 122 has a small balcony). The continental breakfast isn't bad. We love the location - 5 minutes to the nearest tram and metro stops, 5 minutes from Waterlooplein (also a metro stop there) and perhaps 10 minutes from Rembrandtplein. There's a great Indonesian restaurant next door called Flamboyant. Have a great trip.

We stayed in Bridge and Golden Tulip Doelen and although the second one was more expensive we prefered The Bridge with its friendly and very helpful staff. I would book Bridge any moment

We stayed at the Bridge hotel in September (also in Room 122 with the small balcony overlooking the canal). I thought it was fine for the price. The room was basic, but had TV and ensuite bath. The pine furniture was a little tired (banged up), but the room was clean, the sheets & duvets were clean and fresh, and the double french doors leading to the balcony were great. It was very quiet at night, and a lot of fun to sit out on the balcony overlooking the canal. The bathroom was also very clean, but not brand new (rust stain on the bathtub), and that didn't bother me, for less than $100 a night I wasn't expecting marble. The management and service were great and very helpful. It's in a good location, right on the Amstel, near the "skinny bridge" and a block away from the Amstel hotel. Easy walking distance to the museums (15-20 minutes), rembrandtplein, waterlooplein. I would definitely stay there again, I thought it was excellent value, and had some character. Other people at breakfast were also happy with their rooms.

Linda,<BR><BR>In October we needed to decide where to stay in Amsterdam as well.<BR><BR>We got sooooo many different opinions, on sooooo many hotels . . .<BR><BR>We finally chose the Jolly Carlton. It was absolutely centrally located and a great hotel. You may want to consider this hotel in your deliberation.
