deciding between 6th arr hotels in Paris
 

I'm celebrating my 10 year anniversary with my husband in Paris late September. We wish to stay in the St. Germaine area, and have narrowed our hotel choices to these 3:
Hotel D'Aubusson (standard room)
Hotel Madison (standard room)
Hotel Sainte Beuve (deluxe room)

Which do you recommend? I've seen good reviews on this forum and others for all 3. We want the nicest hotel for our budget ($300/night) and would like good, reasonably priced cafes nearby.

If room size is important to you, Le Sainte-Beuve would be best. For location it's the Madison.

Do you not yet have hotel reservations? You will have to move very fast; September is Prime Time. You may find that none of your choices is available this late.

Msmaddy, if you have your heart set on the St Germain area, only your first two hotels are located there. Le Sainte Beuve is in Montparnasse below the Luxembourg Gardens - it's lovely, but not really near the Blvd St Germain. And, as Underhill indicated September is prime time in Paris, and small boutique hotels are very popular.

We always stay sort of around the corner from the D'Aubusson ( on rue Jacob or the Ille St-Louis)and even a standard room is lovely. I would stay there for the location as well as the beautiful hotel and courteous service.
You can walk out your door and there are so many good restaurants, shops, galleries and the Seine, right there!

Agree, for that price the Sainte Beuve is too removed from the heart of St. Germaine. I'd go with D'Aubusson first, then the Madison.

Thanks for your input. I have reservations at all 3 hotels - I think I'll cancel Sainte Beuve, then decide between Madison and D'Aubusson.

..though just on the border of the 7th near the 6th, look at duc de saint simon (or simeon)..it is on a very quiet st near the rue de bac metro...would be a great place for a 10th....sorry i dont have the name right, but i know it is listed on trip advisor..

A standard double room is only 12 sq. m. and (for my inquiry) costs 245 euro excluding breakfast. Kind of tiny for the rate yet it is a cute hotel.

The hotel I am referring to is Duc de St. Simon.

I stayed at the D'Aubusson a few years ago, loved it. Gorgeous decor, pleasant staff, tasty if pricey breakfast buffet, museum pass sold in the lobby. We had a "superior" room which was pretty large by Paris standards, even a couple of chairs with a table. Generously-sized bathroom with robes and nice toiletries.
I have heard from some people here that standard rooms are none too large, but that is pretty common in Paris. The location is excellent, short walk to either Odeon or St Michel metro.
Get a room facing the back if you prefer absolute quiet. We were at the front (rue Dauphine). The street is not wide, so you don't hear the roar of traffic, but occasionally a car horn in the morning as cars pass through on the way to Pont Neuf.
Plenty of cafes, and rue de Buci has plenty of markets and take-away shops if you want to have a picnic in your hotel room. Pack (in checked luggage) your own plastic plates and utensils, and a corkscrew.

We're staying at the Madison again next month (next month!). The superior rooms face the Blvd. St-Germain and are very nice, with loads of storage and large marble bathrooms. The hotel has a 3* rating; I believe the d'Aubusson has 4* (is is accordingly more expensive).

The Madison is nice but not really the same league as the D'Aubusson, which all things considered I believe is the nicest 4 star hotel on the Left Bank

That's probably because the Madison is a 3*, not a 4*.

..i think the d'aubusson is more than the duc de saint simon....look at duc de saint simon's web site..i must admit a bias..i have nver been in any of the hotels, but i lived literally around the corner fron the duc de..and love the quiet untourist neighborhood.

I stayed at the D'Aubusson in May and loved it! It is in my top ten best hotels list because the rooms are big and nicely appointed, the bathrooms are huge, and the staff takes such good care of the guests. Plus, it is in a wonderful neighborhood that is upscale, safe, and within walking distance to many museums and landmarks. I can't say enough about this hotel! If you decide to go, please tell Sebastian, the concierge, that Sara from Newport Beach, CA says hi! Let us know where you decided to stay and what you thought.

We have stayed at the Sainte Beuve and loved it but it is not close blvd. St. Germaine. We last stayed at Pas des Calais which is right off the blvd and is very nice. Check it out before you choose.
