December tip

Hi Folks.
I am travelling to Paris mid December and depart early January.
I don't need to stay in France and I'm looking for a cheap holiday.
I will be writing on my laptop & watching movies on it, & I need Wifi to stay in touch with my family.
Long story why I have to be in Europe, but I'm looking to do this on the cheap.
No shared dorms or bathrooms, but no need for luxury of any kind.
Have been around Europe 20 years ago as a backpacker & loved it, but really gonna stay mostly in the room.
City or country, no matter, but I do need the Wifi.
I'm not even sure of the country to visit.
I was considering Valencia, Spain or Malta, but honestly have no idea.
Thanks for any tips & I will answer any question with honesty.

I'd go to the Algarve and check into a hotel for Christmas, maybe even the Canaries.

Thanks so much for the response Bilboburgler.
I'll check it out :)

If might seem strange, but southern Europe can often be colder than Paris at that time of year. I would not lock myself into any plans far in advance. There is no need to book ahead at that time of year, and frankly with some of the online agencies like www.lastminute.com you can find some superb deals that only need to be booked 48 hours in advance.

Go to the north, nobody wants to spend holiday there.

found an appartment in Lille for about 40 €/night.

Lille is easily accessible from Paris (by TGV you must book quite in advance, by normal TER don't bother prices don't vary over time and it takes you one more hour than TGV).

Cold but very nice, and beer and good food.

Make a search on booking.com at different places and select ...

Having run a factory in the town next to Lille for a bunch of years I suspect it may not be so nice in the winter despite the odd fine art gallery.

There is a reason for it being cheap :-)

I go to Lille at least twice a year as a break from Paris. One of those times is almost always in December, because they have a great Christmas market and the entire city is bustling.
