December in Paris

I posted this yesterday but got no response. Here goes one more time. Is Paris really beautiful around Christmastime? Has anyone gone to Brussels or Bruges in December? Thought we would make a train trip to those cities to enjoy the holiday ambience. Looking for suggestions. Thanks

Hi ccsabol,

I would not say Paris is really beautiful at Christmas time as the weather maybe down in the 30's with rain. But it is pretty with little crowds at the major attractions, great food, streets that you can walk till you drop from exhaustion

I am probably biased as I find Paris pretty all the time. I've visited in winter a few times (will again this year) and while different than in Spring Summer, it is delightful. Because it gets dark earlier you get more chances to see buildings illuminated, and the lights along the Champs Elysee are quite lovely indeed. While the department store displays are not all on a par with, say, large NYC stores, some are quite nice. One of my favorite memories is a December visit to the town of Versailles where the merchants get together and choose a common theme for their holiday decorations.

Any suggestions for special winter things to do in Paris - things we might not do in the spring/summer? Also, what 3-star restaurants are open, since many seem to be closed? For a 1-2 day excursion during Christmas week, any thoughts on Normandy (Mont St. Michel/Omaha Beach/Bayeux) vs. Bruges? Thanks!

Don't know what happened to my post - the thread looks all messed up! Anyway, I'll try again - Any suggestions for special winter things to do in Paris - things we might not do in the spring/summer? Sorry, now my post appears! Maybe the thread is fine, and I'm "all messed up!"
