Train station area in D'dorf is ho-hum - OK, safe, etc. but blah IMO

The location of Hotel Orangerie is far better than the location of Stage 47.

The Orangerie is right in the baroque Karlstadt, very close to the riverbank, quiet and still a stonethrow from the entainment district Altstadt. All museums, shopping etc. are very close. IMO, the best location in town.

Stage 47 is in the middle of a business district.

From the Orangerie, you are in a few minutes at the main station when you take the U-Bahn or streetcar.

I agree with traveller, plus the Altstadt is fun & lively to stroll when you're looking for dinner alone. I met all kinds of conventioners from all over the world when I went to grab dinner there alone.

If you take the streetcar along the Graf Adolf toward the Hauptbhf, it stops at the bottom of Koenigstr where my favorite gelato shop is in Duesseldorf (nextdoor to Holiday Inn). I find every excuse to stop there. I prefer taking the taxi and streetcar over the subway.
