December 23-26, 2016....Munich or Strasbourg?

we have an option to spend 12/23-26 in either Munich or Strasbourg next year. Any experiences in either city will be most appreciated. We will be spending the days leading up to the holidays in Bavaria at the markets and probably through the black forest. 2 Adults parents, 1 adult child on this trip.

Strasbourg for sure. Their Christmas markets are terrific. I've been to both cities during holiday time and found Strasbourg much more Christmasy and wonderful to tour at that time of year. We travel often with our adult son and really enjoy those trips.

Just found my pictures from our Christmas time trip to Strasbourg. This should make my point.

Be aware that most everything will be closed 12/25 and may close early on 12/24. If things open on 12/26 will vary - you really need to check places you will go unless just looking at the countryside.

Sorry - but afraid this will cut seriously into things you will be able to do.

Strasbourg would be my preference but nyt makes a good point

Take into consideration what "nytraveler" says. The Christmas markets will be ending for good early on the 24th and you'll find most things closed the evening of the 24th and again on the 25th. It would also be best to check where to have dinner and make a reservation in advance. Just be aware of these and plan accordingly whichever place you choose.

uh, that was last year at this point in time, Christmas 2015 is over and done with

hmmm. I see the heading says 2016, sorry, I'm surprised anyone is planning that far ahead but I suspect the special closures this year might not be in effect next year.

We'll be arriving in Germany around the 17th with plenty of time to visit markets then find a home base for Christmas Day and days following.
