de bahn Rome to munich overnight train

have just booked my wife and myself on the Rome to Munich overnight train for next month. The website asked how many passengers were traveling (2) as well as our ages. However the website only wanted my name and details, not my wife's. The ticket was sent by email and stated it was valid only for myself, but did say ' and accompanying persons where applicable'.

The fare was 298 EUR for 1st class, which was a lot cheaper than a single airfare with Lufthansa. Is my wife also booked on the same ticket, or do I have to book her separately and pay another 298 EUR ? The wording is ambiguous. The website reverted to German when I tried to investigate, leaving me stumped. I don't want to front up in Rome next month to find she has no ticket. Can anyone please help ?

Your ticket should state exactly what you bought, train #, departure time, class, car #, sleeping arrangements, etc.

Did you buy from Bahn.de?

This shows basic train tickets and how to read them.

Thanks kybourbon but my ticket is in German and looks different to the Italian ones. It has 'erwachsene 2' at top right, but 'ic/ec fahrkarte 1' and reservietung 1' lower down on the left. So still my question is ' do I have a ticket for 1 or 2 people '?

hi tony,

did you see that there is a guided tour to booking your ticket on the bahn.de website?

that might help you to make sense of the ticket you have printed out!

Go through the steps of booking it again for one person and see if you get 149 or 298 Euros - simple.

At that price you have a ticket for 2 - guaranteed.

Thanks Annhig but the site was no help. Despite flagging 'English' at the top it still went through in German. I have already booked and believed I was booking for 2 people but the ticket gives no clues. The booking site was in English and I thought I made it clear that 2 people were traveling but I remain confused.

Thanks Aramis. Last night I did exactly that - went through the motions of booking a single and came up with 149 EUR but with all the 'specials' and other pricing for different classes, just wasn't sure when I received the ticket. We will be on the train the day after you, so bon voyage.

here's the link to the guided tour, in english.

though it looks as if aramis has sorted it out for you.

I'm seeing non-stop flight MUC to FCO for next month at $161 round trip on Lufthansa.

swandav2000 Nov 21st, 2010 08:40 PM

Hi holgatetony,

'erwachsene 2' means two adults. It looks to me that you have one ticket, one reservation, for two adults to travel.

I hope you can get this clearly resolved soon!

Thanks everyone, I am sure I've booked for 2. My mind is at rest.

ps what a great website, to be able to sort problems out so easily

It should be obvious.

if it says (for example) 'car 12, berths 12, 15 you've booked two sleeper berths.

If it says car 12, berth 16 you've only booked one.

With the greatest of respect, some of these "obvious" things become more so the SECOND and subsequent times we do them.
