DDSG Cruise Question
 

We are considering taking the train from Vienna to Krems, the DDSG boat from Krems to Melk, spending the night at Melk, and continueing on to Salzburg the next morning. My question is taking luggage on the cruise boat an option? Thanks

I'm not sure I understand your question. Why shouldn't you take your luggage on the boat? Too much? Too big? Too bulky?

The boats will accept bikes for passage , so I assume luggage would be no problem.But it is best to confirm it.
DDSG does offer a package rail and boat ticket with admission to Melk.You may want to investigate this a an option.
But think about making this a day trip instead of an overnight in Melk.
The train stations are some distance from the boat docks. Transfer of several bags train to boat could be some problem unless you find a taxi.
This would be true at Krems and Melk.
You could then leave the next day from Vienna to Salzburg on the train without trying to connect from Melk and avoid a day of dragging luggage when is such can be seen and enjoyed.
Also lookat www.brandner.at- this is another Danube boat- same trip- I think the same or similar price but the schedule may differ.

This is a nice trip if the weather is good and worth a day of your vacation.

I agree with Molker. And staying a night at Melk doesn't save you that much travel time anyways, as there's no direct train from there to Salzburg. You still need to change at Amstetten or St. Polten. It'll take you about 2.5-3 hours to Salzburg from Melk or from Vienna.
