DDay Tours
Recommendation! We are leaving for France on Sunday and want to take a D-Day tour in Normandy. Please recommend a highly rated, well-informed tour/guide for us!
|
If you mean a private tour next week, I think you may be too late to be asking this question. Whatever. Type "D-Day tour guide" in the search box. There have been many threads on this subject.
|
We do not need a private tour but one with a maximum of about 8 persons. Are we too late?
|
Are you interested in a d-day daytrip tour from Paris or Bayeux or where?
|
We need a tour from Bayeux where we will be staying for 2 nights.

I loved them as do many other fodorites (use the search function above to see many very favorable mentions of the group). We did a one day American sites tour with them but with more time we'd have gone back for at least one more day with them. |

Keep your fingers crossed that Colonel Warman is available for your tour.
http://www.normandybattlefields.com/personalized.htm He took us on a fantastic tour of Normandy last December. He meets you at the train station, you rent a car and he conducts the tour. Colonel Warman was taught by professors who were there on Day 1 and he knows more personal stories and can take you places that the standard bus tour can't do. Be prepared for lots of walking even if it's raining - he won't notice! We were just 3 - my husband and I and our 14 year-old son. We were obviously very impressed. We booked a couple of months ahead and had to send a check as a deposit, but maybe you can use a Visa. Email me at verbier7@comcastnet if you want more info. You're lucky you have more time than we did. |
Another vote for Battlebus; hope you're not too late in reserving space on any tour especially if you want the 6-8 person mini van-type experience.

Or, you can go to the Travel Information Bureau and hire a guide with van for 70-90€ per carload (up to 7).
We've also hired a driver in the parking lot of Bayeux station. If you don't speak French, get there early, because the anglophones are the first ones to be engaged. |
