Daytrips from Paris
Will be in Paris for several weeks, wanted to get suggestions for daytrips outside the city, either by train, or I can rent a car.
Have been to Giverney,Versailles,Reims. Would somewhere like Normandy or Honfleur or the west coast be too far? Maybe an overnite stay? We have never been to the northwest area. |

Yes, Normandy would need an overnight. At least one or maybe more. You can do Chartres in a day by train. A mini-tour of the Loire Valley, probably best with a car.
If you consider an overnight trip, there are more possibilities, using the TGV. |
On our upcoming visit we are going to do a daytrip to Angers to see the chateau and gardens. I decided I wanted to visit the Loire Valley / chateaus. You can take a bus from Paris that visits three of the major chateaus but we are going to take the train to Angers - the chateau there is not one of the biggest / most visitied but the logistics of the trip seemed to work best for us. If an overnite would have worked for us I think I would have chosen Amboise - the combination of chateau and a Leonardo Da Vinci residence sounded appealing but not so manageable in a day trip.

An overnite trip is possible. I think we will do one to Lyon (never been there), and we are thinking about Honfleur. If we were to go to Honfleur, would a car be best, and what other places should we visit on the way or nearby.

Take the TGV into Switzerland for a day or two.

Whenever someone starts talking about daytrips out of London I suggest they consider Paris. I suppose that would work in reverse too. How about a chunnel train daytrip to London?
