Daytrip to Munich from Salzburg during Octoberfest

In a couple of days we will be spending 3 nights in Salzburg and are considering a day trip on the train to Munich. It will happen to be during Octoberfest time. Are we stupid to go during this time or what can we look forward to? We can go on either a Thursday or Friday, assume Thursday might be less crazy? We would just be there during the daytime.
Thanks!

Today, I believe it wasn't that crowded. You could even get a seat on the subway at 6pm! I'd avoid Friday at any cost and be prepared to be standing on the train from and to Salzburg.

hmmm, so if we don't like crowds of crazy, obnoxious tourists maybe we should visit Munich another time???!!! And use that extra day in Salzburg to do some other day trip. Thanks!

I too would highly recommend not visiting Munich during Oktoberfest. If you have to, stay away from the Wiesn.

We went to Munich earlier in Sep. because we did not wish to be there during the Octoberfest. The central area of the city seemed "tight" and
( often) crowded ; cannot imagine what it must be like with millions of visitors.

Okay, thank you so much. We are now researching a different day trip out of Salzburg and we hope to visit Munich in the near future!
