daytrip advice from Dubrovnik
We will be arriving in Dubrovnik Sept. 27 (Friday), and I've noticed that there will be approximately 6,000 cruise ship passengers in town Sat and Sun. This makes me want to go elsewhere for those days, so I'm looking at Mostar and Montenegro. Or should I get a car and just drive to one or both of these places and spend a night or two. Any advice? Just starting our trip planning and welcome all advice! We leave Zegreb Oct. 14. So the in between needs to be painted in!!!

Why not head to one of the Elafiti islands (Kolocep, Lopud or Sipan) which are nearby green island jewels, quiet and peaceful and definitely not crowded in September. Fore more information have a look at http://www.lopud-island.com

We did a day trip to Cavtat, that we enjoyed a lot. Very quiet, and we had a nice lunch by the sea.

I recommend you to take a trip from Dubrovnik to Mljet Island. Really beautiful island, not too crowded and full of greenery. I especially liked the excellent local food. The northern part of the island is a national park, where are two salted lakes, also an interesting place to go swimming. More details about Mljet-http://www.mljet.hr/index.php?lang=en

Thanks everyone! I will check out these places!

I would encourage you to think about an overnight trip to Mostar. We really enjoyed staying there en route from Sarajevo to Split last fall. If you can get a car in Croatia that would allow you to drive RT to Mostar that would be ideal as there are interesting things to see on the way. My TR from 2010 describes one route you can drive. Very scenic.

The Peljesac penninsula is another good day trip by car from Dubrovnik. Ston and Mali Ston are interesting, the scenery is beautiful and the wine and seafood are verygood.
For the rest of your trip after Dubrovnik, there are many options. We have visited Sarajevo twice and very much enjoyed our time there. If you chose to go there, you could go to mostar en route from either Dubrovnik or Split. |
