Daylight Saving Time in Spain
I'll be in Madrid in March/April and will be returning home on Sunday April 4. That is the weekend we switch to DST. What is the custom in Spain? I'm sure I would like to stay longer, but I'd hate to miss my plane because I didn't know what time it was.

In the Spring, Europe changes one week after the US. In the fall, we change at the same time.
Thanks, that's good to know. I won't lose an hour of my trip.
I don't think that's right. In the EU, I believe they switch one week before the US in spring, not after. They change the last Sunday in March and we change the first Sunday in April. They are changing on 3/28 this year.

Ditto to what Christina has told you. The switch to DST in Spain happens a week before, not after. |
Adhere to the departure time on your tickets - the airline databases have all the time changes (including seasonal) accounted for. You just need to know the correct local time, which Christina and Maribel have related.
ASK your hotel what time it is before you go to bed!
Christina is correct, Europe changes a week before the US, but always check with your hotel. Often hotels leave notes of these time changes in each room for their guests' information.
Yep, you have to be careful of that darn time change.
We didn't miss a plane, but accidentally woke up the owner of a small hotel in Bergerac, France (no night watchman here), trying to get out of our hotel early to get a head start on our driving. We Thought it was six, but it really was 5. Rather embarrassing! |
