Hi P,
Roskilde has the Viking Ship Museum and the Cathedral.

Kronberg Castle in Helsingor and Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerod. Both accessible from Copenhagen as day trips.
For local food, you can take a trip to a small place called Gilleje (just further north past Helsingoer) where they serve freshly smoked herrings on black bread with beer just by the harbour. All along this coast the scenery is lovely and there are lots of nice villages eg Hornbaek. Best to hire a car for this type of excursion.

You could take the train to Malmo Sweden...On the way into Malmo you can see the very interesting new apartment bldg, the Turning Torso.
Once in Malmo, you can walk to museums, gardens, through the old city. It's a very nice place.

If you want to go to Malmo, you can also take the bus from Copenhagen. It's the 99 and you pick it up in the square, by the Opera, just across from Magasin....big department store. It takes about an hour as I recall. You can see a bit more of the countryside..the train goes underwater..and the bus drops you right in the city center. They run about every half hour, all day long...the last one..at least in the winter left Malmo at 7:30 p.m. for return to Copenhagen. I don't know, with all the daylight, if they run any later in the summer. There's a bank pretty close to the bus stop where you can get some Swedish Crowns. They also have a great walking street in Malmo.

We just returned from a driving trip to Denmark where we concentrated on Viking and historical sites.
In Copenhagen we stayed at the wonderful Skovshoved Hotel about 6 miles north of Tivoli/Radhus. We drove to Helsingor for Kronborg Castle (after a very bad wrong turn onto the ferry for HelsingBORG Sweden).Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerod had fantastic history exhibits and a wonderful castle and gardens. Roskilde had a wonderful cathedral and a nice Viking ship museum. These were all easy 1 hour drives from the hotel. We took a bus into Copenhagen from our hotel ($6 per person each way) and enjoyed the National Museum very much. Both the major art museums were partially closed. Tivoli was much smaller than we expected but had beautiful flowers.
