Hi again
Well, only four days to go and off but Seafox has freaked me out re the strikes. I looked on the news sites and quite right, they plan to start up again on the 13th. With this in mind a few changes, I have to be in Saarbrucken on the 15th so am taking off straight from Paris on the 12th and wil have a bit more time in Saarbrucken and hope to see that area and also Strasbourg. I will then be going up to Luxembourg. I will still have seven nights in Paris but at the end of the trip now. So anyone got some good suggestions on Saarbrucken, the cuisine to expect and highlights if any. Also the weather. Thanks. |

Had a delightful daytrip to Rheims last year - interesting and prosperous town, impressive cathedral and of course those Champagne cellars to visit - we enjoyed Mumm -and the Leonard Fujita-decorated chapel across the road was fasinating and beautiful.
Not much in Chartres except for the Cathedral - dining options seemed slim. We went on a Sunday, so I can't comment on the tour. Of course the weather may be a factor for a winter trip like yours wandering around a stony provincial town could lose its charm fast - why not get on one of those fast trains and head south for your day out of paris? |
Seconding (like many) Chartres, and also Chantilly.

Hi K,
Auxerre is a very nice old town on the Yon river, about 1:40 hr. Chartres cathedral is 1 hr. Dijon is 1:37 hr. Beaune is 0:20 hr from there. Also see Chateau Malmaison http://tinyurl.com/9nvvn ((I)) |

a few weeks ago i did a day trip from Paris to Nancy
though my goal mainly was to ride the new TGV-Est, the bullet train, Nancy I found to be extremely nice compact and easily manageable in a day trip. The Place Stanislaus has gotta be one of Europe's finest squares - totally amazing. About 1.5 hours from Paris each way via TGV-Est train from Gare de l'Est. |
