day trips into Dublin
Hi. Dublin hotels are expensive. We are hoping to do day trips from Wicklow into Dublin. Is this reasonable? What is the best mode of transportation, bus or train? I see many tours available from Dublin to outside areas, but I do not see any into Dublin from outside areas. We will have a car rental, but we prefer not to drive and park in Dublin. Thanks.

You could stay in a town in The Inter city rail system. Agree, having a car in Dublin in not a good idea. Have you looked at B&Bs in the larger Dublin area, not in City Centre, on a bus routes? What is your budget? |
VRBO is how we do it. I might spend one night coming or going in a hotel. Greystones is not a bad area though. Dart train into the city.

Where were your VRBO locations Macross?

We are staying in three different spots on our trip to Ireland. The third leg, we are staying at a airbnb in Wicklow from which we hope to venture in to Dublin a couple of days.

Wicklow has a population under 10,000 -- it wouldn't be reasonable to expect there to be tours in to Dublin from there. By far the easiest/quickest option is to drive up to the Carrickmines Luas Park & Ride or one of the other P&Rs on the south side of the city. About a 30 min. drive from Wicklow (could be more or less depending on exactly where you are staying and which P&R you use.) |
The train car parks fill up early, and driving in Dublin not recommended.
You would be better off getting the bus (about an hour) from Wicklow town to Dublin. They run about every hour. https://national.buseireann.ie/?orig...ent=0&family=0 |
Thank you all. A bus sounds reasonable! Three and a half weeks and counting down!!!
