Day trips in Spain

I will be spending some time in Torremolinos and would like to take day trips to Seville, Granada, & Toledo. What would be the best way to travel; train, rent a car?

If by train is the best, how can I get a schedule. Also, does anyone know how long the travel time would be to each place? Would day trips be feasible?

Thanks for any help! Sue

I tried plugging these into www.maporama.com: Granada is 80 miles and 1:20 away from Torremolinos; Seville, 139 miles and 2:05. Toledo is 310 miles and 4:47, too far for a day trip.

There's a problem with the train schedules: www.renfe.es hasn't posted the summer schedules yet, except for certain high-speed trains, so their website currently makes it seem impossible to get to Toledo by train, for example. I hope this will be corrected soon.

hi there sue,
try nethotels madrid. they normally do hotel reservations in madrid and barcelona, but they also have great info on day tours in madrid, and toledo.

they are agents for one of the largest day tour operators in madrid.

best of all, this info and bookings are free.

http://madrid.nethotels.com/english

An update: The summer schedules are now available at www.renfe.es. It's about 20 minutes on the Cercania (commuter train) from Torremolinos to Malaga, then another 4 hours from Malaga to Madrid, then another hour to Toledo. Malaga to Seville is about 2.5 hours. Malaga to Granada involves a change at Bobadilla: 45 minutes to Bobadilla, then another 90 to Granada.

I would consider Toledo day trip as something not doable because of the distances. Sevilla could be a bit stressful, but it depends on what you want to see and do. (2 hours and half driving, 3 hours by train ). Granada is more affordable ( 1 hour 30 minutes driving, or 2 hours 30 minutes by train ) specially if you just like to have a look at the city and visit the Alhambra fortress. I would consider visiting Ronda ( 1 hour 15 minutes driving up the mountains ) or Nerja/Frigiliana/The Caves ( 50 minutes drive ). These last destinations probably can be reached by bus but do not know their schedules. Another interesting place is Antequera/Neolithic tombs/El Torcal Natural Park ( About 1 hour drive from Torremolinos ). Hope you enjoy your trip!
