day trips in Burgundy

will be spending 5 days travelling by car in Burgundy-after 2 days in Dijon and a barge cruise on Burgundy Canal. We will be staying at b&b Domaine Loisy at Nuit St.Georges.Does any one know it? We would like ideas for day trips from our base. Has anyone been to the Morvan?

Anna

As u.s. says Beaune is very nice. The Hotel Dieu is worth a visit. We also visited the Patriarche cellars although this might only be a group thing.

Further afield to the west, the spa town of Bourbon Nancy is interesting & the main hotel (the name escapes me but its impossible to miss) has a great lunch.

To the south, Lyon is 2 hrs away & has great food, churches & an old quarter.

Just south of that is Vienne with its Roman amphitheater etc.

Just some ideas . . .

Beaune is of course an obvious choice (no more than one day, though, IMHO). Then you can head south to Cluny (abbey), Autun (interesting Ronan ruins) or my favourite, Tournus, a charming little town with a stunning romanesque church. The chateau de Bussy Rabutin is a nice, little known gem - especially if you know/are interested in the work of the Marquise de Sevigne. Vienne is not in Burgundy, it's in Rhone Alpes, south of Lyon, and a good two hour drive on the autoroute. Morvan is a rural, rugged, area, that I would not recommend unless you are a great nature fan. Plus you don't mention the season you will be travelling: in the winter time, the Morvan can be a bit forbidding, not to mention the possibly icy roads !
