Day trips from Tropea
 

Hi,

We will be in Tropea for five nights (four full days) as part of our Italian summer vacation (I started another thread for more general information about our vacation) and we will be spending three of those days in Tropea, at the beach and discovering the town. We do want to take one day and take the car and visit the area of Calabria near Tropea (within an hour drive at most).

Any ideas?

We haven't been but we have booked a week in Tropea and 3 nights in Scilla as part of our fall vacation. We are compiling a list and will welcome any suggestions you receive. Scilla to the south and Pizzo to the north are first on the list. We also plan on a good weather day to take an excursion to the Aeolian islands (volcano, Lipari village, etc.).

We were looking at those two villages as well, but another one that i just discovered is called Zungri, with its cave settlement, about 15 km from Tropea.

Thank you. We will add Zungri to our itinerary. We do have plans to go to Pentedatillo, a ghost town at the very tip of the boot, but outside your one-hour range. Although Reggio Calabria appears to be more like 90 minutes from Tropea, we are curious to see its promenade that gets a lot of raves. We definitely want to visit Pizzo just to try tartufo. If you like chocolate, it looks really good and is their dessert specialty.

We may also consider a "Stromboli by Night" boat tour which leaves in early afternoon and returns to Tropea later in the evening.

Has anyone taken this tour?
