day trips from strasbourg by train

Hi,
I am planning a trip for my parents to Strasbourg. What day trips would you recommend from Strasbourg? (maximum 1h15 min train ride). They will be staying in Strasbourg for 4 nights. Other than Colmar, what cities can be explored from Strasbourg by train? (german side or french side is ok). This will be their first trip to France.

Thanks so much for your help.

In an hour and a quarter train ride from Strasbourg, you could get to Basel, Freiburg in Breisgau, or Baden-Baden.

On the German side, the spa town of Baden-Baden is a short, direct (no changes) train ride away. Freiburg is a farther south, but still doable as a day trip. Will they be spending any time in Paris before or after Strasbourg?

Hi R,

You can train to Colmar, Mulhouse,
Nancy and Ribeuville.

OK, Nancy is 1:19 min, but I think that that is close enough.

Thanks everyone for your advice.
my parents will be spending one more day in strasbourg, then taking train back to paris for the flight.

I was going to suggest Nancy. I did that when I was staying in Strasbourg, and really liked Nancy a lot. There is a lot to see in one day, very nice city.

Nancy to me is one of France's most underrated cities - lots of monumental architecture

Baden-Baden i did as a day trip from Stasbourg and loved it - in Victorian Times one of Europe's most august spas - still a thriving thermal resort - and a huge park surrounds them

Take the tour thru the main old grand-dame casino to see what high-rollers in Victorian times did. Outstanding tour but only before 11am or so before the casino gets hopping.
