Day trips from San Sebastian to Bilbao to Hondarribia?
 

Hi,

Has anyone taken the train from San Sebastian to Bilbao to see the Guggenheim museum? How long did the train trip take and do the trains run frequently on weekdays? I would like to go to Bilbao for lunch, see the museum, and come back before sunset.

Also, I've been looking at old threads and Hondarribia sounds very nice. It is easy to go there as a day trip from San Sebastian, or should I wait until I've picked up my car in San Sebastian and am heading to France? Is it easy to park in Hondarribiia?

For those who have been to both Hondarribia and San Sebastian, are very different, or is it that if you see one, the other is pretty much like it, or is it a surprise? (I know Hondarribia is smaller.)

The train schedule (in Spanish) is on www.euskotren.es. Between Donostia (San Sebastian) and Bilbao, they run hourly but take over two and a half hours; the journey is faster by bus.
Hondarribia is pretty, but not exceptional. From San Sebastian, take a train to Irun (every half hour), then a bus (frequent).
Another option is San Juan, a pretty village at the entrance to the port of Pasajes, with several fish restaurants; take a local bus from San Sebastian to San Pedro then a little ferry across the harbour to San Juan.

I also meant to say thank you, Geoff, and to ask how much shorter the bus trip is to Bilbao, and if it was at all scenic.

How long does it take to drive to Bilbao. Do you know by any chance?

There is frequent bus service between Bilbao and SS.The express bus takes 1 hr. 20 mins. See schedules at

The best way to get to Bilbao from SSebastian is by Pesa buses running every hour http://www.pesa.net/pesa/horarios/ct...;fechasRango=0.

To go to Hondarribia theres a direct bus every hour or more frequently, no sure!, that stops in Plaza de Guipuzcoa.(INTERBUS (I-1) Tel:
943 64 13 02.)
