Day Trips From Prague
 

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could provide any recommendations on day trips from Prague. How far is Budapest and would you be able to do that in a day trip?

No Budapest is 7 hrs by rail from Prague - dwell on closer places like Karlsteijn (sp?), Cesky Budevijice or Cesky Krumlov, one of the neatest dreamiest smaller cities in Europe.

And look into the bargain 7-day consecutive train pass sold at stations for an incredible 40 euros if traveling enough - good for the whole country. (based on a friend who just returned but i have no hard info on it)

you could do this in a long day trip with a driver. you probably need 3-4 people to equal the total cost of the rail. we used a driver to go from prague-cesky krumlov- then budapest. but he also drives the route as you suggest as well.

Just returned from Prague and had a couple of great day trips whilst in the capital city. Of course Cesky Krumlow (by bus, no change on a Sat.) and the other great day via train was to Olomouc, a world heritage site. We checked out the times for the return trip at the main train station the day before and would recommend this for all travellers. (We had to pay a supplement on the train though because we were travelling on a 'superior' train) - no great cost though.

Don/t miss a visit to Mucha's museum in Prague, also to St.Agnes convent - both well worth the time spent at each. Cheeers -- -

Also highly recommend Cesky Krumlov. Very unigue city, walkable, World Heritage site, great outdoor restaurants, beautiful architecture. We spent a day there and wish we had two.

We spent two days in Ceske Budejovice and frankly were a little underwhelmed. It's worth a visit but not for 2 days IMO.

We also enjoyed Tabor, which is about half way in between CB and Prague. Small, quaint town, interesting architecture.

Cesky Krumlov but from Prague take the train to Ceske Budovice then grab a taxi. They will drop you off in the main square, right by the tourist office. I would spend at least one night there, if not more, rather than daytrip. It will be well worth it + save you more than a few $$ as well. You can also visit Karlovy Vary (a Spa town) as a daytrip as well.

Karlovy Vary (The old Carlsbad) and Marianske Lazne (Marianbad)- both spa towns, both charming, both easily doable on a day trip from Prague. You can take the train.
