day trips from paris to interesting place outside of France

hi
considering a day trip from Paris, but we have been to france before so we r thinking about doing something new. We are considering Brugge. we want to drive or take train to a place that is no more than 3-4 hours away.
we r looking for a romantic city or a village to spend a fantastic day (3rd marriage anniversary)
any suggestions?

I would consider Chartres - - why go so far away?

Best wishes,

Rex

Bruges is nice but it is a long & boring drive.
Chartres is good suggestion, but you could also consider a drive around the Loire valley to see some Châteaux. Blois and Chambord are about 2 hours away from Paris. Avoid weekends.

Though I enjoyed Brugge very much, but I think it is a bit too far from Paris for a daytrip. Maybe you would like to spend a night there and then visit some other Belgium towns such as Antwerp and Leuven as well? If you are looking for a day trip from Paris, you would not need to travel all that distance.... would suggest that you stay within France. You may like to check out websites on these villages- Chartres, Reims, Beaune instead.

Christy,
Have you considered a town in the Alsace region? You may like to check out this website for more villages and towns.

Lyon is 2 hours by TGV and is one of my favorite places in France.

Brugges is a bit less than 200 miles, the drive is a bit boring indeed (it's all highway). It will take you 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

Just another idea:

We did a day trip to London thru Paris Vision Tours. We took Eurostar to London and had bus passes for the whole day so that we could do whatever we wanted. It was affordable and we enjoyed it.

How about the MONT ST. MICHEL? (right at the border between Brittany and Normandy, not far at all from Paris)
It's beautiful and romantic (assuming you don't go during the week-end).
If you haven't seen it yet, believe me, you won't be disappointed.

Mont St. Michel is a bit far for a daytrip as well, I would not recommend it unless you plan to stay overnight. Same with Bruges.
