Day trips from Paris, besides Versailles

Anyone have ideas for day trips outside of Paris besides Versailles and Chartres? Ideally accessible by metro or train...
thanks!

Fountainbleu, Chantilly, Vaux le Vicomte, Reims, Rouen ,Giverny,St. Germain en Laye
(national museum of antiquities), Vincennes, Rambouillet - the summer residence of President of France, Malmaison - the castle of Josephine Bonaparte, Park Bagatelle in Bois de Boulogne

All of them are very short ride by metro, bus or train.

Blois, France....we took a day trip there recently in hopes of taking a hot air balloon ride. The balloon company said the air was not good for the trip.

So we decided to explore Blois and were pleasantly suprised at being able to enjoy such varied and beautiful city. The people were very nice and it was worth the day trip.

Thank you everyone who answered! We will have a week in Paris, which I am sure will feel like not nearly enough when it's time to go home, but i just wanted some ideas in case we want a break from the city for a day.
This forum thing is so fantastic! It feels really like you get "the inside scoop", from real people!

My advice is to "plan ahead". Plan a mid week trip out of the city. I try to do so each time I am in Paris fro a week. As you can see there are many options. Consider the time of year when making your choice., Giverny is lovely, but in the Winter with some things closed it will not meet your expectations. Chartres is an easy trip and a lovely town with a cathedral that is not to be missed. (good for a first timer) Also, there is Reims where you can visit Tattinger or Vueve Cliqot Ponsardin. Keep searching posts and books and make a choice and simply plan on the day - it's a good interlude from the city.

Chantilly is lovely, good horse musuem there also. Chateau not crowded, grounds nice to walk around in, not as big or grand as Vesailles, but, as I said, NOT crowded.
Train from Gard Du Nord, 30 minutes.
Amazing collection of paintings in Chateau.

Google for website.
