Day trips from Munich??

We'll be traveling to Munich in August for a short week stay. Would like information regarding some good day-trips. We will have a car. Have heard that Salzburg is a must. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Don't miss King Ludwig's castles! See all 3 if you can. For 'storybook' Germany, don't miss Rothenburg ob der Tauber or the smaller, Dinklesbuhl. Both delightful medieval walled cities. A silent electric boat trip on the Konigsee is delightful! Oberammergau with it's beautiful houses covered with murals and flowerboxes - delicious! And Do see Salzburg - have a Salzburger Knockerl for dessert at St. Peter's Keller, the oldest restaurant in the world.

We just came back from Munich and did three daytrips. Regensburg is fascinating and not so touristed up as Rothenberg. Regensburg feels genuinely old in a way that Munich, with massive rebuilding after the war, does not. At least in the churches. I took a train and aerial tram to the top of Zugspitze. This was lovely, and felt like I'd been thrown back a century as we passed the mountain villages. We also used Panorama Tours to see Mad Ludwig's Schloss Linderhof and Neueschwanstein. Both breathtaking, but in August, you will have to contend with ghastly crowds. Good luck!

You can also see some intresting WWII sites, as in the Dachau Concentration Camp, not recommended for children, and Berchtesgaden which was the Third Riech Southern Head Quarters (Obersalzberg). Also in the Berchtesgaden area is a place called the Eagles Nest which a lot of Hitler's war planning took place. Also not to be overlooked is Neuschwanstein Castle King Ludwig II's creation and Disney's inspiration for Cinderella's Castle.

Make time to see King Ludwigs Castles in Bavaria.
Keep driving south and visit Innsbruck, Austria.
It's a breathtaking small alpine village.
While in Innsbruck, take the Hefelkar up to
the top of the Alps. If its a clear day, one can see for
miles.
